Week 17: IndyCar will not return to Vegas in 2012

Just announced as of today, the Izod IndyCar series will not return to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in 2012.  This decision was made after a few month of meetings, considering that one of the stars, Dan Wheldon, lost his life.  Many people think this is a good decision, but others believe that it is a wrong one.

In my opinion, which has absolutely no say, I believe this  is a very wrong decision by the Izod IndyCar Series.  Everyone is saying that the bad event happened because of the track and how many cars were involved in the race.  Yet, what people do not know is that the incident happened in the rear of the 33 or 34 car field.  Yes, the track is fast, but that is kind of the point of racing.  Every racecar driver, including myself, thinks about his/her life before getting in a racecar, but we do what we do because it is a sport we love. And each and every one of us would lose our life doing what we love, without a doubt.

  1. I agree Kyle. Every job has its risks and I'm sure that all the racers know that as well. I do believe that, however, it is a good thing to do. It can be hard for many of the drivers who knew Dan Wheldon to want to go back out and race again knowing that a friend of their's has lost his life on the track that they are about to race in. Many of the racers mentioned how close they (the drivers) all are even though they are competing with one another. It can be difficult to endure such a loss then come back and race again.

  2. I agree with you Kyle drivers know the risk, but they love what they do. I think it is a bad choice not returning to the track. I'm not sure what could be done to prevent another death but racing is a dangerous sport and Dan is not the first to be killed in racing's long history. They should return to Las Vegas.

  3. This topic has been very controversial for awhile now. Many people are upset that the race will not be taking place again in las Vegas, and yes, I agree with there hatred. I think that the track can support the field and that last years incident was just accidental. If someone gets in a wreck on the interstate, the interstate is not oging to perminantly shut down then, IT'S CALLED AN ACCIDENT! And yes, I also agree with what Kyle said, that the drivers know the risk when they are behind the wheel.

  4. I agree with everyone here. Mikey, you serve a good point, it is an accident. And Kyle, it was in the rear of the field. I believe it was caused by how many drivers were in the race. There is just not alot of room on a track for 33 to 34 drivers. Wyatt serves a great point too, they know they are risking their life racing, but they love to do it. I bleieve they should keep racing in Vegas.

  5. I don't believe that they shouldn't return to Las Vegas. All that needs to be done is the track needs to be improved. The track could be wider and safer due to so many cars on one track. Also like Kyle said, the drivers know the risk and still race because it's their passion. They are like every other sports competitor knowing the risks involved with their sports.

  6. I dont think that Indycar should return to Vegas. Because like the famous quote goes, "What happens in Vegas...Stays in Vegas" I dont think that fate should be tested again, because this track is highly dangerous, and even the drivers were scared to race there. Hopefully if they want to return to this track, they make it just a little bit safer. Or just never race there again.

  7. I have to disagree, I don't believe they should stop racing at Las Vegas. The accident that happened there is like Mikey said an accident, something that occurs regularly in Indycar races (not to minimize the tragedy of Dan Wheldon's death). Every race, with every crash these drivers take that risk no matter which track it is, I totally agree with Kyle about the passion that drives him and his fellow racers.
